Company: In developing countries, the right degree can increase a graduate's income 3-5x. Despite this high return, traditional student loans are often unavailable for talented but poor students. The 60+ million smart high school graduates per year that can’t pay for higher education represent a huge investment and impact opportunity.
Brighter Investment uses an online platform and selection algorithm to select cohorts of students with high future earning potential. Investors get the opportunity to invest in the education of these diversified cohorts in return for a percentage of their future earnings. We can show that the Dollar value of these wages is stable, predictable and we project a 9% annual return for investors. This creates a win-win relationship: students earn a degree, investors a competitive return.

Over the last two years we've supported 75 Ghanaian students and a new cohort will start in September. 15 students from our first cohort have graduated and started making repayments. Their better than projected performance is proving that our approach works. This gives us the confidence to raise money to expand.
Our goal is to raise enough capital next year to expand to new countries and really accelerate growth. Your first responsibility will be to make that capital raise happen. Depending on the strategy we agree on, it may make sense to initially start out working with us on a part time basis, possibly while keeping your current job.
We’ve proven that our approach has the potential to remove financial barriers to education. This is a huge opportunity that will require a lot of capital to realize. At different stages of the company’s growth, with increasing scale and improving track record, different fundraising strategies will be most appropriate. We count on you to develop that strategy with us and build the team to execute on it. If successful, you’ll help shape a company that can change the world.
Table stakes:
Experience with raising capital, preferably from impact investors
Competent in financial analysis and modelling
A self-starter with personal accountability and a commitment to achieving goals
Nice to haves:
People management experience
A background or significant work experience in a developing country
Writing skills and interest in contributing to the occasional blog post and newsletter
Proficiency in a second language
